Police in Las Vegas are asking the public for help to provide any relevant information related to the death of a woman found inside a luggage bag last week.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, the department received a tip about a "deceased person" on Thursday morning after 4:00 a.m. When officers got to the reported location, they found the victim inside the bag near an apartment complex.
First responders confirmed that the woman, later identified by the local coroner as 46-year-old Kristen Avelar, was dead at the scene.
"Due to the suspicious nature of her death, the LVMPD Homicide Section responded and took over the investigation," police said in the news release. It's unclear what caused her death.
